History of The North Face.
They are named after the coldest, most ferocious side of a mountain. They have helped explorers reach the elusive heights of the Himalayas. But the story of The North Face® begins, funnily enough, on the beach. Specifically, the North Beach neighbourhood of San Francisco, some 45 metres above sea level. It was here, in 1966, that two hiking enthusiasts decided to turn their passion into their work and open a mountaineering shop. In 1968, The North Face moved to the other side of San Francisco Bay and began designing and manufacturing its own alpine apparel and equipment.
In the 1960s, The North Face brand gained followers among active outdoor athletes and began sponsoring expeditions to the farthest, often untouched corners of the world. In the early 1980s, skiwear for extreme conditions was added to the range. This laid the foundation for the free-spirited snow sports athletes of today.
