A softshell jacket is slightly thicker in material, but still unlined. The breathable, stretchy fabric is not as waterproof as a hardshell, but it is slightly warmer. Perfect for spring and autumn. A padded winter sports jacket is water-repellent and it keeps out the wind, but it is also lined.
